  1. "Martin is quoted as saying "I have been keeping myself busy by spending my HBO money on food and hookers; however, I hope that in March of 2011 I can let you know that it will be delayed until August 2011 at which point I will announce it is delayed until December of 2012.""

  2. Mr. Martin thought this book (A Dance with Dragons) would be published in fall 2008. While white-washing his readers for almost 3 years, it seems he has plenty of time to roam the world and plug many other things. Heck, when HBO catches up to him with A Feast of Crows episodes, maybe he will figure it out. After all this time, you would expect the 6th book to be published a month after the 5th book finally shows up. Add to that the fact that he allows no negative or disappointing comments to be published on his journal, (only rear-end kissing public allowed), and you have the makings of a self-serving illusionist-complete with smoke & mirrors. Some of us are not fooled, sir, and you are by no means anywhere close to a Tolkien or a Lovecraft.

    • <blockquote cite="George R.R. Martin">Ten years from now, no one is going to care how quickly the books came out. The only thing that will matter, the only thing anyone will remember, is how good they were. That's my main concern, and always will be.

      • It may be another ten years at this rate, enjoy the wait…

        • Yeah, well. If they don't come out, big whoop. He's a human being. I love the books, but jeez, I have my own life to live. If the series is never finished, then tough luck. I'm not going to kill myself (or anyone else for that matter).

    • his work so far has EARNED him the comparisons to Tolkien and Lovecraft, he did not presume to make the comparisons himself. All fans are eagerly waiting the continuation of the series and I respect that the style in which the series has been written makes it incredilbly difficult to complete (A "gordian knot" of interweaveing plots). There are many other series to pursue while you wait for Dances with Dragons. Mr. Martin will finish when he finishes and I applaud him for taking the time to do it right instead of rushing out a book that is not up to the standards of the series thus far. If

    • DJ dude, you are a douche, what's the need for a comment like that??? If George wants to write the book tomorrow or in 10 years or not at all is up to him to decide that, it is HIS book. I would love for it to be out tomorrow but I if it doesn't is OK. Why don't you appreciate what you have now instead of complaining like a little bitch, go read harry potter or write your own damn book if you're so bitter about this.

      • BlizzWizz dude, you are a turd, what’s the need for a comment like that??? If it IS martin's book and he is going to take 20 years completing it, he should have made it clear when I PAID and read the first book. If he had said that we were never going to know the end, many of us wouldn't have spent x hours on reading the books. Now that he isn't writing AT ALL, i want my time back, and since that is not possible, i want my money back. Why don’t you stop rimming the fat perv like a little bitch, go buy his wet calendars if you like his shit so much.

    • $20 says this series is never finished. The HBO series is usurping too much of Martin's limited time. He is in his mid 60s and hugely overweight. No chance he lives to be 200 to complete this. It is sad but the man can't or won't deliver. That much should be obvious. If what he said about knowing how this would finish, 15 years ago now, there can be no excuse for these delays. The truth is clearly that he doesn't know how to finish this and this pathetic continued wait proves it!

      • $20 says you can go fuck yourself. I'm sick of people bitching about Martin not being able to finish his work.

Go read the Dark Tower. It took 22 years but King finished the series. In the first 14 years (the duration that Martin has been working on Song of Ice and Fire) he only completed three of the seven. Between the first four books King took 5 or 6 years to write the next one. Then from 2003 to 2004 King cranked out the final three books.

Even if the series doesn't get finished, I'm still happy that Martin gave us the first four books. You ungrateful bastards who are more concerned with finishing the story then enjoying what you have really annoy me.

        • And funnily enough, those last three Dark Tower books were fairly awful compared to what had come before, which is yet more ammunition for the 'take your time to do it right' viewpoint. Can't wait for A Dance of Dragons. :)

    • man I am totally on your side, I undestand where everyone is coming from by saying that it's his coice as to when or if he finishes the rest of the series, but I wish those people would stop idol worshipping long enough to realize that he deserves his fan's wrath because empty promises usually tend to piss people off. If finishing ADWD is truly his priority, then he should stop focusing on other side projects and do what needs to be done to get the fifth book published.

If you want a comparison to another author (other genre obvious) than try Tom Clancy. Both have an amazing catalogue of project that they are associated with, but most TRUE fans couldn't give a rat's ass about the books that are written by other authors under Clancy's banner. Expanding your creative field of expression is one thing, but all artistic minded people who earn their living off of our (fans) loyal devotion to their work, sholud realize that if they bite the hand that feeds they will in turn get slapped for it.

  3. Um wait…you have the most trouble writing BRAN?? So you find it easier to look through the eyes of a little girl, Arya, who is roughly the same age as Bran than with a little boy? 0_o

  9. …and yet he keeps plugging his toy needles and Wild Cards and other obscure works and merchandise that nobody wants and the only way he can ship them out of his basement is to advertise them incessantly on his (not a) blog. What the hell you talking about George?

  11. Hey guys, loved the show! I'm not a regular listener, but I keep the show in my feed exactly for gems like this. Can't believe you got a GRRM interview!

…but what really prompted me to post is a big THANKS for bleeping out that chapter-mention. I super-appreciate when people take pains to avoid spoilers! Thanks again,

    Hans

    • Glad you enjoyed it. It's such a huge win for us to talk to someone like GRRM.

As for the bleep, it totally wasn't a spoiler. Paul was just super worried that Martian didn't actually read a second chapter and someone would be pissed that he said differently. Seriously, he asked me a dozen times to cut out mentioned a second chapter.
